A flock of 150 or so birds descended on Spring St today.
My friend Lynda Johnson runs a kids theater camp. This past summer one of the activities she had the kids do when they weren’t rehearsing/performing was making colorful origami birds. At the end of the summer, when they had made a 1000 of them, they decorated the children’s ward of a local hospital.
A few days later someone in the hospital administration heard about it and said they all had to be removed because they violated the fire code.
For my birthday in September she presented me with a giant yard waste bag filled to the top with 1000 origami birds and she said “you’ll know what to do with them”. They’ve sat in our house ever since.
This weekend I went to work and hung maybe 150 of them outside our house on tiny Spring St and it certainly cheered the street (and me) up. I have 850 more birds so I expect the flock will continue to grow as the weather warms up, spring unfolds in Newton, and I buy more cans of Scotchguard.
If you’re out and about, stop by Spring St in Upper Falls. I hope I put a smile on your face and put a vision of spring in your head.
Share the wealth!! – If anybody wants some birds to spruce up their end of town, email me ([email protected])
Please I would love them for the tent
A flock shall soon be yours
We can’t wait for for Spring. I love to bring some of your spirt to Nonantum and show off the kids talent out side of Better Life Food!
Will do
Jer,
Lynda knows who will make the best use of a 1000 beautiful birds! I’ll take some to send and bring to my Dad for his 96th birthday and to my 101 year-old Mother-in-law who can’t wait till spring so she can get outside!
Thanks to a certain someone, there are beautiful cranes greeting walkers on the trail along Quinobequin Road. Come down and share pictures! Thanks Jerry!
The most important meeting since I moved to Newton 14 years ago is happening right now at the School Committee. Will we join Needham, Wellesley, Weston, and over 200 other districts and free our kids from forced masking?
Please, please reach out to the school committee and demand normalcy.
If you could spare about 15 of them, I’d send them to brighten up my elderly mother’s apartment in NYC.
Another lawn bag full of hundreds more origami birds was just delivered to me yesterday by good friend Joan King. If anyone want some waterproofed origami birds just email me at [email protected]. Meanwhile I’ll have to add to the flock here on Spring St
