Brewer’s Coalition was our go-to last summer and into the fall. Can’t wait to get back there! Will probably branch out to others in Newtonville as well.
On my own patio, with my family and friends that I have not been with in far too long!
I hope Walnut Grille has outdoor dining.
Fiorellas has an awesome, if small, patio. I’ll also second Brewer’s Coalition for outdoor dining, and add Brewer’s Tap & Table up on Moody St.
I’m sure my own grill & patio will be getting a workout as well.
I’ll be eating on the Newtonville benches. A different one every day. Ice cream. Burritos. Sandwiches from Great Harvest. Lobster Wok take-out. More Ice Cream. Coffee. Coffee. Coffee.
Can’t wait until they install the lights. Parking signs went in today. I feel like the DPW is listening to me when I post, since I just complained yesterday about no signs. Huzzah.
So lights, paving, action. Whohoo.
And finally I can’t wait to eat at MIDA, coming soon to Trio. So excited for that place, and its soon to be very popular patio.
Cabot’s! I hope they make their back parking lot the way they did last year.
A burger and a pint outside Dunn Gaherins on the first unseasonably warm night will put a smile on my face.
Does anyone know if/when Clover Food Lab will be opening at Trio? There doesn’t seem to be much mention of it on the interweb.
Last night I was dispatched to pick up a delicious freshly-milled whole wheat loaf from Great Harvest, and Newtonville was certainly hopping. Brewer’s Coalition had seven of its nine or ten picnic tables occupied. There were a ton of people waiting outside Los Amigos too.
And I got a chance to finally venture over the Pike to Trio – nice place, but I hope that the Barn can regain some of its past quirkiness. It seems to me that the only way that retail can effectively compete with evil Amazon is to evolve beyond the mass-market offerings. For instance, it’s a tall order to find a pair of sneakers anywhere in Boston that’s not produced in a Southeast Asian sweatshop – my favorite brand right now is Asolo, which makes much of its lineup in the EU (Romania), but they’re nearly impossible to find in local stores so I ended up ordering through Asolo USA in New Hampshire. And this winter I logged several hundred miles trudging up and down unshoveled Beacon Street in a pair of amazingly sure-footed studded boots from Icebug, but again, there isn’t a single retailer in the Boston area who carries them, so I had to get them from a store in Vermont.
Speaking of treacherous winter sidewalks, big shout out to MassDOT for its meticulous ongoing preservation of a twenty-foot glacier on the sidewalk at the corner of Centre St. and the Route 9 westbound ramp – against all odds, through 65-degree weather! That’ll sure teach those workers from East Boston and Chelsea who struggle to take the Green Line out to their minimum-wage jobs on Needham Street! And it also serves as a strong deterrent against interloping Needhamites such as myself.
Our fave for outdoor dining is Thistle & Leek. Last night we got a fantastic pizza from newbie Jinny’s Pizzeria, which we pretty much devoured in the car on the way home. Tomorrow it’s Dunn-Gaherin’s with the outdoor market (11-3), including walk around food like empanadas from Better Life Foods, and the outdoor beer garden opening at 2!
Tonight’s dinner is coming from Thistle & Leek (vaccine celebration), and I was going to mention Jinny’s, but I see that’s already been done. Does anyone know what’s coming in where Panera was in Newton Centre? I missed the special permit hearing, and notifications of the hearing weren’t informative.
Amanda, I believe a Tatte is coming. Which would be tremendous if true. I’m a fan of their Shakshuka.
I’d love to round up a crew who are willing to ante-up for something special and throw one of these in my back yard once the weather gets nice. Email me ([email protected]) if you might be recruited for that.
@Amanda Heller, Fig is correct I watched the permit hearing and it is indeed Tatte
Thanks for the info. Looking forward to having Tatte in the neighborhood.
