Absolutely no Newton connection here but ….
John Prine died today of cornavirus complications.
He was a singer, a songwriter, a guitarist. His career as a recording artist spanned from the 70’s till today, but he was most famous as an incredibly talented and influential songwriter.
His best known song was the exquisite Angel From Mongomery, made famous by Bonnie Raiit, but my favorite John Prine song, that informed my whole adult life, was just his plain ole voice singing It’s a Big Old Goofy World.
Rest in peace John Prine.
No Newton connection, as you say — but a lot of his songs had a universal quality of humanity to them that could easily find a common thread in Newton as well as Newark, Newcastle and New Delhi.
Probably my favorite Prine song: funny, sardonic but loving, and a valentine to how we embrace our riotously imperfect selves:

@Essteess – Thanks for that. I’d never heard it before and it put a big smile on my face.
If my wife and I had a “Happy Anniversary” song, this would be it. Well, let’s just say it would be _my_ choice for a “Happy Anniversary” song…
What in the world’s come over you? And what in heaven’s name have you done? You’ve broken the speed of the sound of loneliness…you’re out there runnin’ just to be on the run.
🙂
He will be missed, but I do have some of his best performances on my IPAD. Yes, I still have one of those ancient devices.
That should be IPOD.
@Bob Burke — Nice to encounter another one using ancient listening devices. Mine is 12 years old and still works quite well, though it doesn’t hold charges as long as it used to. However, I’ve only ever used it to record myself playing music, so that’s a major reason for its longevity.
@Essteess, @Bob Burke – I’m beginning to think I should consider chucking my 8 tracks and getting one of those Eyepods
