City Hall’s COVID-19 Task Force announced today that they will immediately be closing the Needham border, with likely closings of Weston, Wellesley, and Waltham soon to follow.
Says spokesman Walter Frankel, “the Charles River gives us an easily defensible border to the north and west, we’re working on a plan to keep BC students from streaming in from the east.
When asked if these border closings are likely to help stem the spread of Covid-19, Frankel said “Damned if I know, I just find those BC students annoying.”
Please April fool’s should be cancelled! No one needs the little jolt of shock on m ah the moment. CUT IT OUT!
Personally, I don’t feel like this is the time for April Fools jokes, especially ones related to COVID19.
Agreed. I think that clown Frankel has no place being on the task force
I also think this is in bad taste given that Waltham is experiencing an explosion in cases.
Agree Jerry. Who appointed him anyway?
I love April Fool’s day. I also love to laugh. I know folks handle crises differently but for me laughter and poking fun is a major ingredient for getting through anything. I made jokes about breast cancer the entire time I was going through it – granted it was with others who had breast cancer and not with my family.
I wouldn’t like joking that hurts anyone of course or is something too believable. This post isn’t at all believable so it’s funny.
Each member of my family has always tried to be the first to pull an April Fool’s joke. During their younger years it was easier to fool each other. This morning my son was first with a text to his sister that simply said “I’m pregnant.” We all laughed hysterically even though it really isn’t that funny. Then there are the tic toc videos my daughter makes that crack us up. Sometimes we just need to laugh because either way we are stuck in this together – so to speak.
I wish Jerry could be cloned and transmitted as fast as the COVID-19 virus! I pray fervently that there will never be a vaccine for humor mixed with kindness, compassion, intelligence and the ability to laugh out loud. May we all test positive for absorbing JerReilly perspective.
Real funny, considering Google News has picked this up as a real story.
What I got on my Google News feed is this
NEWTON IS BUILDING A WALL … AND MAKING WALTHAM PAY FOR IT …..
The rewritten post isn’t funny but it’s less offensive, and the original one was an embarrassment. Per capita income in Newton is $68K. In Waltham it’s $38K. 14% of Waltham’s population is Hispanic/Latino. In Newton it’s 5%. And we’re joking about “closing the border?” Jesus Christ.
The odd this is, there were police blocking Needham st right on the Newton border last week. So you had me going
THIS WAS NOT FUNNY. SOME PEOPLE THOUGHT IT WAS TRUE AND BECAME QUITE FRIGHTENED AND ANXIOUS AS THEY DEPEND ON PEOPLE FROM NEWTON. NOT AT ALL FUNNY. SHAME ON ALL INVOLVED WITH THIS!
Sorry to be a broken record, but the Boston Globe’s savant, Jeff Jacoby, insists that this is a civil liberties issue. These measures are corroding our Constitution, and one’s ability to move about with the freedom that this time-honored document guarantees.
Really?! My ‘funey’-sense is tingling.
