Newton State Rep. Ruth Balser, one of the lead sponsors of a bill to limit the ability of local police to participate in federal immigration enforcement is “optimistic” about the bills chances, according to this State House News story published by WGBH.
“I think that everyone would like to make sure the people who live in Massachusetts can trust their local police and that, if they need help, if they’re the victim of a crime or a witness to a crime, they can go to their police and not worry that someone in their family who may have questionable immigration status may be targeted,”
Open borders to illegal aliens, without limit (and with full government monetary entitlements), and this is called “Safe Communities” bill???
Noting the lack of further comment here as yet on this very serious topic, I’m left to wonder (or perhaps conclude) that my precise point is difficult to counter — or at least to discourage any further dialogue. I once had the occasion personally to question Rep. Balser on my precise points, and she stated her position stemmed from her sympathy for WW2 Jewish Holocaust victims denied entry into the USA. I do more than share her condemnation of that sad chapter in American History (which I’ll lay at the feet of FDR). However, I see substantial differences in comparing the two situations. Perhaps others disagree or this can lead to further comment here.
@Jim: I agree with you on a number of things, but sadly, this is not one of those. I’m glad you agree, at least, with her about the Holocaust. What you may not know is that there are a number of ‘holocausts’ happening in parts of the global south (many ofwhich our government has a hand in creating, directly or indirectly). Also, many are fleeing the effects of climate change. What happened to Lady Libertys motto? Every American (unless entirely indigenous) are descended from immigrants. #45’s parents were, too. (A fact I find highly paradoxical, considering his attitude towards them). Everyone on the planet knows what Trump’s attitude is about immigrants. I think people must be pretty desperate and out of options to even consider trying to make an arduous and expensive trip to our borders bearing that awareness in mind.
@Jim Epstein – You are just making things up here. There is nothing in the this post or the bill that refers to either “Open borders to illegal aliens, without limit” or “full government monetary entitlements”.
This is a bill that deals with overlapping responsibilities and authorities in law enforcement. It spells out that local law enforcement can not be compelled to enforce federal ICE rules. It doesn’t change either immigration rules or eligibility for monetary benefits – you’re just making things up.
