Come one, come all, to the Bloggers Ball.
On Monday Dec 9 Village14 will be hosting a long overdue party. Starting at 7 PM until we run out of gas we’ll be gathering at Paddy’s Public House in West Newton. They’re setting aside the upstairs room for the occasion.
Come bloggers, come commenters, come lurkers, come trolls, come friends of friends. Everybody’s welcome!
Maintain your anonymity if you like. Introduce yourself by your Village14 handle, or your real name, or hell just tell everyone you’re FigNewtonville. If more than one Figgy turns up we’ll hold a Pick the Real FigNewtonville Contest”.
We’ll be celebrating the upcoming holidays. We’ll be celebrating Village14’s 8th birthday. We’ll be celebrating the life of Village 14, a typical 8 year old – one minute mature and intelligent, the next obnoxious and cranky
We hope to see you all there
p.s. Paddy’s wants us to give them a rough head count so they can staff accordingly. If you think you’ll be there send me an email at [email protected]
p.p.s Thanks to Terry Malloy, our Village14 social director, for putting this together,
Here is their cool website link: http://www.paddys.us/ Mmmm Scotch I’m thirsty already.
Here is a link to the Google Map: https://goo.gl/maps/DaRHqME3zNej9MQy9
Hope to see you there…
@Newton Business Staff – Thanks Jon.
That’s another good reason to come – to meet Jon Shubow, our behind the scene’s guy who kept the site running 24/7 for the last five years.
Great idea! Perhaps after a couple of cock tails, Greg will even be willing to discuss climate with Jim Epstein!
@Bluefootedbooby – I’ll be happy to buy those cocktails
Sounds fun. Good idea!
We keep getting older… All I know is that according to whois, the domain was purchased on Dec 4, 2011, (apparently a few days to going live).
Here are some interesting stats:
And according to my spyfu.com account:
Fist seen on Google: 7 years and 11 months ago.
Organic Keywords: 500
Estimated monthly Clicks 2.48k
Page 1 keywords: 47

Recent Comments is the top page, no surprise there.
Blue,
A careful reader of V14 would discern that any debate, at least from my standpoint, with Greg would be over the economics, cost-benefit, and realistic actual approaches to climate in lieu of the essentially insignificant “feel good” approaches regularly proffered on V14, rather than on the existence of climate change over time and any ‘accelerated’ impact due to man.
Jerry, yep I’d hope to be there for a fun celebration (albeit adult beverages are not a needed prerequisite from my end).
Thanks to all who have planned this!
I have Google Analytics starting on Sunday Dec 10, 2011 at 9:00 AM showing 292 sessions and 834 pageviews in contrast with 1,146 sessions and 6,647 pageviews, yesterday, 11/15.
So the birthday party date is really close.
Nice! The first Bloggers Ball I can walk to – and from!
I hope to finally meet some of the great All-Star bloggers who I enjoy following here. We’ve had a few of these get-togethers over the years and it’s been so much fun to put together faces with sock puppets, er, names. It’s even more fun to be able to share a drink and a laugh with those we disagree with. After all, we are neighbors who care about this city.
If you haven’t been, Paddy’s upstairs is a terrific room.
And best of all… JERRY’S BUYING!
The first post I see in the archives is dated 1/16/2012 and was about Setti Warren’s campaign web site. It definitely doesn’t look the start of a new blog so I think the earlier ones must not have made it into the archive.
Also, a year or two ago, something happened and a large number of bylines got switched around on lots of the older posts.
While just doing some spelunking in the archive I came across this post from the early days.
Actually. it seems Village 14 was born on Nov. 27, 2011. The original post is gone but there’s this. But what’s a year, or a few months, or days, among friends?
As for the event itself, I propose a game we call Rabbit and the Fig. Jim will be the rabbit. He’ll hop in front of a lap top and crank out as many dozens of comments as he possibly can in an hour. While his comments are multiplying uncontrollably, Fig will write one long stem-winding comment, then let it sit for 60 minutes before he publishes.
This will give rest of us time to not debate climate change with Jim. And we can thank Fig for once again taking one for the team.
I have an e-mail from Greg dated 11/29/11 in which he states that he’ll be going live with “a new Newton blog” on Friday. So presumably the first official date was 12/2/11, though he sent me a preview link, so maybe that was the “soft opening.”
I do love Paddy’s but I don’t know if I want to out myself
Darn, I forgot that emojis don’t work here. I had the silly face emoji.
MMQC you are one of the few people on V14 who I would actually like to meet and get to know better. I will pass. But Y’all have fun
@mmqc – pass yourself off as one of the staff … or as fignewtonville
I’m always up for face to face contact and letting off steam. I’m in!
Definitely love a blog party! It’s been a long time since we’ve had one.
Is Greg buying?
Sadly I’m out of town that day. Plus I have a face made for radio as they say….
Another time for sure!
Sounds like a great time. I haven’t been able to make it to one before but this date looks good. I am excited to meet a lot of posters and commenters IRL that I don’t already know.
MMQC, remember you can just go by your pseudonym on V14.
Fig, I was really looking forward to meeting you not just so we can play Rabbit and the Fig or guess who is the real Fig – although that was a big part of it. To add to Greg’s idea, Fignewtonville’s comment would explain everything Jim just said.
Thank you Terry and thank you Jerry for hatching this plot.
Gee MMCQ – and Claire you’re not going?? I was hoping to say hello before the next election cycle ( insert “crazy” emoji here)
GG
Oooh, Gloria bringing in the snark.
I am planning to attend though I am somewhat of a square and not much of a drinker. Shmoozing, however, is a pastime of mine. It should be pleasant to socialize with the participants on this blog, including the many kvetchers!
There are a few folks who were regulars in years gone by (Ed Prisby, Kim, Hoss, Anatol, etc ) who disappeared into the ether. If anyone knows their whereabouts please let them know.
Anatol and Ed moved from Newton. Just an FYI, a good number of lurkers (descriptor meant in a good way) arrived at past events, so it’s not necessary to out yourself, MMQC.
I do wish Kim were still around – we always enjoyed a good old fashioned blog battle, then had a good laugh about it in person.
@Bob Jampol. I also don’t drink, but there’s always the chance I’ll be available to carry someone to my car and drive them home. Unlikely, but this can be a rowdy group.
@Jane Frantz – your wish has been granted. I tracked down Kim and he will be in attendance
🙂
… and we’d love to see our elected officials who can make it.
I’m going to try to make it, but it will likely be on the later side.
It was so great to see so many old friends and foes! I’m thinking of making a comeback.
I’ve got a few things to say to some of you clowns. 🙂
Clown! I missed you! (Really glad you showed up!)
Fun time tonight! Kim, please do come back 🙂
Great night! Loved to see people who often butt heads having a good time together.
Kim you f@*$%#ing clown, get back on village 14 and drive us all crazy.
Great to see you again.
Really fun night. Nice to see so many folks of different political directions come together and enjoy each other company.
And great job Jack Leader keeping Jim Epstein off Village 14 for a few hours by engaging him deep in conversation. Way to take one for the team!
(Kidding, mostly, Jim. Thanks for being a good sport.)
I hope you guys keep having these get togethers. One year I’ll actually be able to make it…
