Washington Street Vision Plan: There will be a public hearing on a request to approve and adopt the Washington Street Vision Plan as part of the 2007 Comprehensive Plan on Monday, September 9th at 8:15 p.m. in the Council Chamber.

Summer 2019 Update: Based on feedback from the City Council at the May 9th meeting, the Planning Department has created a DRAFT Washington Street Vision Plan amendment to the City of Newton Comprehensive Plan for the Council’s consideration. This document draws on the Hello Washington Street Report submitted by the Principle Group and has been modeled on the Needham Street Area Vision Plan amendment to the Comprehensive Plan.

A vision on Washington Street without a definitive view on air rights is vastly incomplete.
There is a clear deal to be made- construction over the Pike cost tens of millions, rezoning land along Washington St will raise property values by tens of millions. How the math all works isn’t clear, but those two things should go hand in hand.
