I didn’t want the end of summer to pass by without expressing thanks and appreciation to Parks and Rec’s Carol Stapleton and her crew of lifeguards and other student staff members at Crystal Lake. As a regular user of the lake, I’ve seen those kids handle a variety of situations with aplomb, maturity, and thoughtfulness. They are consistently polite and friendly to all. In addition, they take their life-guarding very seriously. This is a direct result of Carol’s training and supervision. Well done!
Crystal Lake encomium

I agree! Thanks, Paul, for the post, and you realize that Carol actually has the youth there reading Village 14 so they get an understanding of civic affairs? And thank you, Carol, for your outstanding leadership and professionalism. And thanks to the lake for being so yummy and welcoming.
Great shout-out Paul.
Though I rarely get to Crystal Lake, I’m 100% behind your gratitude. Here in Upper Falls we are immensely grateful that Carol Stapleton is always quietly behind the scenes whenever there is any activity organized for the Upper Falls Greenway or the Emerson Center.
In gratitude for Carol’s help with last year’s sculpture exhibition on the Greenway, local artist Shogun Curtis immortalized Carol within his 50′ sidewalk dragon mural. Better yet, in Shogun’s fabulously detailed poster for last year’s Feast of the Fall, Carol appeared again. The squirrel’s eye is a heart with “Carol” written above it.
Carol rocks and we hope the whole city knows it.
Here here! I agree, Carol Stapleton and Crystal Lake are both Crown Jewels of our city!
Well that’s so nice to hear! I will pass that along to Jenny Lipof, a first year lifeguard who truly loved here experience and loved working with Carol!
Thank you for posting this. We are so blessed to have Crystal Lake right in the heart of our city.
Crystal Lake is one of our favorite parts of living in Newton, and Carol makes it so. Thanks for highlighting some of the best of Newton, Paul!
Same for Gath Pool. I know the facility isn’t perfect, but the staffing every summer is filled with nice folks who are great with my kids. Thank you!
@Paul Levy – Thanks for also teaching me a new word today … “encomium”. I had to look it up.
