The Newton Nomadic Theater is closing out the final night of the summer long Summer in the Highlands Series with a FREE! Nomad Story Slam at the Hyde Bandstand on Lincoln St, this Saturday Sept 7 at 7 PM.
Come and listen to great stories from your neighbors or throw your name in the hat to tell your own story. Your story should be five minutes long, be true, have happened to you and be somehow connected to the night’s theme – “
anticipation“. Beyond that, its up to you. It can be funny, or sad, or poignant, or ridiculous – it just has to be a good story.
“anticipation” – when you just can’t wait, when you dread to think, when the outcome is unknown.
Tell us about that wincing second before you hit the ground, or about waiting for the reaction from that very embarrassing incident, or the excitement as you were to start that new job, new school, or first date. Tell us about your anticipation.
Everyone has at least one good story in them so we urge you to polish it up, come on down to the Hyde Bandstand and tell it to us all. If you’ve never been to a story slam, you will love it – friends, neighbors, strangers taking turns telling great stories. If you plan to tell a story, arrive a bit early (6:45).
The event is rain or shone. If the weather doesn’t cooperate we’ll move inside the Hyde Center
Coming Soon, Nomad Story Slam – Election Edition – As we did two years ago for the last Newton election, the Newton Nomadic Theater will be holding a special story slam in October featuring the candidates who are running for contested Newton seats (City Council and School Committee). No campaigning, no speeches, just a true 5 minute personal story from each candidate. We are delighted that one of our former storytellers has signed on to the host the event – Mayor Ruthanne Fuller.
Oooh, I look forward to hearing from both, and weather will provide a beautiful backdrop.
