We were able to rescue a juvenile raccoon today with help from Waltham’s Animal Control. He had been stuck for a while but we are happy to report he is free!!! #newtonfire #nfd #newtonma pic.twitter.com/q7CYEQCCWZ

A few summers ago, my neighbor and I were hanging around on the front stoop, when we saw a raccoon emerge from the storm drain on the other side of the street, and scurry through another neighbor’s driveway toward the woods.
Another raccoon followed, then another, then another. It was like watching a clown-car act at the circus.
There were six in all — two adults and four kits. I saw them do the same thing a couple of more times over the next few months. (For what it’s worth, I did leave a message about this for Animal Control.)
I’m not sure if they were living down there in the storm drain, or if it was an exit ramp for their own little highway between streets.
Having had a young raccoon as a pet when I was a kid, I have kind of soft spot for the critters, but I gotta say: Glad they weren’t trekking through _my_ yard.
@Esstees: You mean glad they weren’t trekking through your yard — while you were awake during the day. They’re nocturnal creatures. You’d better believe they’re there at night!
The pic was in today’s WSJ pg. A6. My daughter loved it!
Glad to see they masked the victim’s identity.
Mike, nice one. #DadJoke
