Newton Rep. Kay Khan has proposed a $10,000 tax credit for Massachusetts businesses that can prove they didn’t make their models in advertisements look thinner, younger or whiter, WGBH reports.

“I just had a great idea, let’s get this written up into bill form before it dawns on me how ineffectual and impractical this would be!”
(Although the sentiment is obviously admirable.)
Good grief. Imagine thinking there are so few problems left to solve that this silly proposal deserves even one second of consideration.
What a time to be alive.
This is the best use of our tax dollars she can think of?
All I can say is that Newton voters get what they vote for. (See Leary post above for more evidence).
It seems a bit short sighted that this bill only seems to target female models. Unrealistic body portrayals are an issue for both men and women. While women are exposed to countless images of impossibly proportioned models, men are exposed to countless images of unrealistic muscular physiques, jawlines, hair, height etc.
They could have easily killed two bird with one stone here, but male mental health is once again overlooked.
Now that our legislators have solved all of the Commonwealth’s other problems, and all the necessary money has been saved for future pension obligations, it is an excellent use of taxpayer dollars to pay private companies to stop showing fake pictures.
