Students at the Mason-Rice Elementary School are leading efforts to educate their classmates on the 3R’s (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) and what is currently recyclable in Newton.  These students understand the need to reduce our use of single-use plastics like polystyrene food containers, which is difficult to recycle.  When they are not learning about plastic pollution and other environmental issues, the Mason-Rice Green Team Kids can often be found picking up trash at the Newton Centre Playground.  Here’s their video.

Next Monday, the Mason-Rice Green Team will receive recognition for the excellent work they have done from the Massachusetts Secretary for Energy and Environmental Affairs next Monday (at the Statehouse, 11-12:30). Congratulations to all involved – especially the kids!!
