It was apparently déjà vu all over again when a “small crowd” brought up all the usual complaints regarding Cypress Tree Management’s plans for a co-located medical marijuana dispensary/recreational store on Elliot Street and Route 9, the TAB reports.
Meanwhile, Massachusetts announced there were $25M in rec sales the first two months at a 17% tax rate. Thanks to our Mayor and City Council, Newton’s take was $0.
If it was a small crowd, that’s an indication that the concerns aren’t widespread. If it’s the same old crowd, then it’s time to move on.
Respect the vote.
Greg, from reading the article, I didn’t come away with the impression that anyone was trying to “block” the store. Sure, community members opposed to the dispensary showed up. Sounds like they voiced concerns and weren’t disruptive. That’s absolutely fair.
Traffic is a problem on Rt. 9 — CTM is not the cause of the problem but it’s fair game to bring up the issue. Especially if there is a traffic engineer at the meeting.
Security is also fair game. CTM had its security expert on hand for that reason. This is an area that dispensaries want to address with the community.
I find the exchange about classes amusing. I personally think it’s silly, but it’s a free country and the audience member has the right to speak up.
Net takeaway: CTM meets with community, nothing exciting happens.
Will there be homework?
No coverage or reporting on all the recent break-ins in Newton?
Mike Striar,
I say you and I go partners and open up a shop that actually looks like a shop that sells pot. I’m talking old school head shop but with actually pot. Zeppelin posters, black light and black light posters, Keep on Truckin’ t-shirts, Aerosmith Concert bills from their drug days….
We’d clean up!
@Kim! Welcome back to Village 14! I missed you (and our “report comment” elves probably did too).
Hey Kim– I miss you buddy! Hope all is well with you and your family. I’ll have to hook you up with my brother. He’s the cannabis entrepreneur in the Striar family. He’s got grow facilities and shops opening in 3 other communities. Not in Newton though, because Mayor Full-of-it and prohibitionists on the City Council decided to revote the 2016 law. Most of the smart money went to more welcoming municipalities. The prohibitionist politicians have also cancelled the First Amendment as it relates to all things cannabis. Only very modest signage is allowed in dispensaries and shops, with absolutely no depictions of cannabis leaves.
I will try my best to keep it clean!!!
I will, however, be trying to force my buddy Mike back in the ring for Mayor. I don’t even need a new T-Shirt! I still have the one from his last campaign!
Clowns, all of you! ;)
