Is it time to end Columbus Day in Newton?

The City of Somerville announced Thursday that it will join the growing ranks of communities choosing to recognize Indigenous Peoples’ Day, instead of Columbus Day, Somerville Patch reports.

Is it time for Newton to do the same?

    And yes, it’s impossible to not think of this, whenever I think of Newton and Somerville. Or Everett. Or Chelsea.

    Yes!! I’m sure there would be a chunk of Newton’s baby boomer population that will get their panties in a wad over this, but it’s absolutely time.

    Definitely. I hope a member of the city council proposes an ordinance or resolution to do just that.
