What a great debate! I hope they have more and I hope someone explores the allegations made by both candidates. Galvin;s record and Zakim’s refusal to sign onto the People’s Pledge.
I was impressed with Zakim’s speech at the Dems convention and wish him luck. Thanks Amy for posting this.
@Patricia: Greg posted the video. I posted a link on the “Today is the last day to register to vote for the Primary”

Oops, thanks Greg in that case :). For this and all the other things you post. I always find it very interesting to come to Village14.
I was looking for any solid reason to switch from Galvin to Zakim and did not find it in this debate or when I saw the two of them go at it in Newton Highlands a few weeks back. A group of us on the Newton Highlands Area Council worked closely with Galvin’s state Historical Commission when we were putting forward an option for a local historic district in parts of our village. And I had numerous telephone contacts with his people in the Office of Political and Campaign Finance (OPCF) when I served as the treasurer for Brian Yates’ campaign treasurer. I was completely new to this kind of work and they helped me through a lot of issues with grace, humor and great, great patience. I’m a retired federal public servant and have seen the good and the bad with people who work in government. Galvin’s people in both offices were some of the best and most knowledgeable public servants I’ve had the pleasure of working with.
Galvin has not been perfect and the charge that he’s been cautious in making certain reforms to the voting process may have merit. but you just have to listen to him in these debates to realize that these complaints pale in comparison to the overall manner in which he has led and administered the many varied and vital operations that comprise his office. Bill Galvin deserves to be reelected because there’s nothing in his record to suggest he should not be and much to suggest that he merits another term.
