Thanks to NewTV for sharing this video featuring incumbent Congressman Joseph Kennedy III and Newton resident Gary Rucinski, who is challenging Kennedy in the Sept. 4 Democratic primary. The winner will be unopposed in the Nov. 6 general election.

This is what democracy looks like. Thanks the the League of Women Voters and NewTV for taking Gary Rucinski’s underdog candidacy seriously. Gary speaks truth to power about the existential threat of climate change and the inaction in Washington to address it by accelerating clean energy and putting a price on Carbon. Gary put his money where his mouth is by pledging to not take fossil fuel industry money, whereas Rep. Kennedy has not taken this pledge that over a thousand progressive candidates across the nation have. Feigning support for pricing carbon while taking money from the industry that lobbies behind the scenes to kill carbon pricing is hollow and ineffective. Just look at what happened with carbon pricing in MA this session. Gary is the real deal and I’m voting for him this fall.
Thank you to the League and the candidates for holding his debate!
I believe Gary Rucinski is right, to get real action, climate change needs a champion in the Federal government to fight for it. There are a lot of elected officials who care about climate change, but none willing to stake their career on it.
@Lucia, I agree. I think that elected officials are unwilling to dig in their heels on climate change because it doesn’t typically poll high as one of voters’ top issues. So, as with Congressman Kennedy, it falls to the bottom of their “to do” lists. It’s great to see someone like Gary Ruckinski who is brave enough to put himself out there to fight for the health of our planet. I wish our elected representatives did the same.
