More thumbtacks have been found scattered across a bike lane in Newton, the Globe reports.
“It’s no accident,” [Newton police Lieutenant Bruce] Apotheker said. “Someone’s definitely putting them on the surface of the road.”
He said police have stepped up patrols in the area and are looking for the person or people responsible. Apotheker also asked for the public to notify police if someone has information on who scattered the tacks.
Community Advisory: Officers were dispatched today to the area of 210 Nahanton St. for a report of thumbtacks scattered on the roadway. A bicyclist reported getting a flat tire due to them.

The Lime bikes are beginning to show up everywhere on sidewalks near California St. They are left in the middle of sidewalks and remain there for days and days, often they obstruct foot traffic. There must be a better way.
Colleen,
What does this have to do with a criminal endangering the lives of cyclists?
This is terrible and dangerous.
Bikes are an important way for people to get around locally. They are environmentally friendly. And they are a primary source of transportation for many who can’t afford to drive. This is especially true of people who work service jobs in Newton but cannot afford to live in Newton.
One poster on Newton Parents Facebook page said her four year old had one on the sole of his shoe! Super dangerous! Hope the police catch the criminal!
@ Colleen. As a resident in the same neighborhood, I want to clarify. There were three bikes and they were standing on the sidewalk. One, as of this afternoon, remains. Bicycles are an important means of transportation for people from all walks of life. We need to make sure that those who ride bikes are able to travel safely. What is happening on Nahanton Street is cruel and must stop. A few bikes around the community is not a problem and we should commend those for making these bikes available for our neighbors.
