Sad news. A real Upper Falls institution.
A salon or bank will move in
The building is of course part of the Northland Development – I hope it wasn’t they who kicked her out? The NN Chamber article simply mentions that “she just didn’t have the strength to find a new location.”
+1 on the Greg Reibman quote that ““Paulette Harwood is a gem and this is a major loss for our region.” We’d been planning to eventually send our daughter there. Major bummer.
Northland does own the building on Oak Street, but did not “kick her out” – she is I believe in her 90’s and recently fell. We spoke to her daughters at one of the last costume sales just 3 weeks ago, and they told us that she had found a new location in West Newton, somewhere over near The Barn. I don’t know if that is no longer an option. Northland was not going to be renewing Paulette’s lease, as part of their long term development plan. Paulette’s daughters told us that Northland will be renovating the property. A plug for Miss Deb Vogel at All That Jazz in Nonantum – a great school of dance to send your daughter or son to.
Why couldn’t Northland have renewed her lease on a short term basis until their Grand Plans become to come to fruition?
@Brian Yates, as far as I understand, Northland offered her several options including space near Marshall’s and in the old AAA spot with the goal of transitioning her into a space that would become available when the project is completed. I believe they also offered her very flexible terms as far as her exit from the current space is concerned.
The larger issue appears to be her injury.
