| Newton MA News and Politics BlogUpper Falls is gearing up for its biggest night of the year.  The Feast of the Falls will be on Sunday July 15.Once again an amazing feast will be served to 400 lucky guests at a single very, very, very long table in Hemlock Gorge.

This is the 6th annual Feast of the Falls.  It is the brainchild of Seana Gaherin from Dunn Gaherins restaurant and our chef Christopher Osborne from Better Life Food.  The whole thing is made possible by the generosity of our neighborhood businesses and an amazing outpouring of neighborhood volunteers who put together the entire magical event in a few hours on the afternoon of the Feast.

The FREE tickets for Upper Falls residents will be available this afternoon at exactly the stroke of 5 PM at FeastOfTheFalls.org.  If you live in Upper Falls set your alarms because these tickets always go FAST!  Those of you not lucky enough to live in Upper Falls will also have a chance to attend.  We’ll set aside a small fraction of tickets for sale to residents of the rest of the city that want to get in on the Upper Falls fun.  Details on that later.

We are also very excited to announce the promotion of one of our esteemed VIP Servers.  Every year a who’s-who of our elected officials and local business owners serve as the wait staff at the Feast – serving the food, filling the glasses and making sure one and all are welcome at the endless table – it’s the ultimate in direct public service.

This year we are pleased to announce that returning VIP Server, Mayor Ruthanne Fuller, will be ringing the ceremonial giant dinner bell to begin the festivities.

As always, we’ll have a few new surprises.  Just yesterday I heard some wild and wonderful sounds emanating from beneath Echo Bridge.  I discovered this, a musician playing a tiny hand held synthesizer-sequencer into the bridge’s natural echo chamber.  Campbell Payne will be bringing his otherworldly sounds to the Feast this year for those ready to make the trek down below the bridge to the echo platform.

Shameless Commercial Plugs – Yesterday I saw a neighbor who told me that she hired Christopher Osborne to cater her twins’ Bar Mitvah.  She said in the days leading up to it, she started to stress out about the food and catering.  The tension disappeared in a flash when it occurred to her that if Better Life Food can run the kitchen for the Feast of the Falls every year they could definitely handle her kids Bar Mitvah.  So if you have any catering need from a small backyard barbecue to a massive wedding call Better Life Food.  If you want to go out for some great food and a wonderfully friendly atmosphere, head to Dunn Gaherins Restaurant and Pub.  All of us in Upper Falls are immensely grateful to these two local businesses who make this truly remarkable event  happen every year.
