The plans for the first annual Newton Porchfest on June 2 have been coming together nicely.
I’ve been to a few porchfests in other towns and I’m tickled to hear that we’ll be having one of our own in Auburndale this year.
It’s an afternoon of music – live music of all kinds performed on front porches, lawns, street corners all over Auburndale. Put on your sneakers, go for a stroll, and sample all sorts of music all over the neighborhood.
Right now they could use your help in four different ways.
If you’re a musical performer or band, sign up to perform here (deadline April 1)
If you’re an Auburndale home owner, sign up to host performers here (deadline April 1)
If you’d like to help, sign up as a volunteer here.
- If you’d like to help, make a donation here
We all owe our thanks to the organizers for creating a great new annual event in Newton and to Newton Community Pride and Village Bank for helping get it off the ground.

Shameless Commercial Plug Warning – As far as I can see there is barely a worthwhile thing that goes on in this city that Village Bank doesn’t get enthusiastically behind. Show them the love back. Close your accounts with the First National Behmouth Bank and move them to our hometown bank. I did about a year ago and couldn’t be happier.
Glad to see this came together. Can’t wait!
We’re up to almost 30 performing groups, have room for more! Any and all musical groups are welcome! It should be a fun event, hope you can participate.
So far we have folk, rock, roots, punk, blues, jazz, soul, R&B, spoken word and more!
We have ukuleles, banjos, guitars, keyboards, drums, bouzoukis and more!
We have solos, duos, trios, quartets, quintets and more!
And to paraphrase Mr. Billy Idol – We Want More! More! More!
This is going to be such a great event, come join us!
@Alla – Wahoo!! Sounds like PorchFest is on a roll.
I just called some friends that I heard play on Saturday. They loved the idea and will be joining the roster in the next few days.
On behalf of the steering committee, we second Village 14s thanks to the Auburndale Village Bank for their support.
Also on behalf of the steering committee, if you’re thinking about performing, don’t hesitate to sign up-the deadline is April 1st. If you know someone who might like to perform, please let them know. -Stacey
The donation link you posted is invalid, it appears to be specific to your token/login, can you send a working one? I’d love to contribute. Newton needs more of this kind of thing.
How wonderful, thank you! If you visit our website it has all the info and a working link for donations: https://newton.porchfest.info/
@yuppie scum – I made the same mistake recently (i.e. posted my personal login link) to our theater’s ticketing site. Fortunately someone let me know before I ended up buying tickets for the whole city 😉
I just corrected the link above. Sorry about that.
A neighborhood that would really benefit from an event like this is Nonantum.
Definitely the plan is to expand to other neighborhoods next year! For this first year, we’re starting in Auburndale to give us a chance to work through the logistics and ensure a successful festival. Building on what we learn, we’ll reach out to other neighborhood groups for next year.
Note that musicians can be from anywhere.
