Since the Newton Nomadic Theater began three years ago we’ve brought live theater to nine of Newton’s thirteen villages – but never to West Newton.
Coming up in December we will stage a wonderfully unique series of performances of A Christmas Carol at the beautifully restored, historic Allen House in West Newton.
On the weekend afternoons of Dec 17, 18, every hour we’ll lead a small group of 15 guests through the house. In each room, scenes of the Dickens classic will unfold with the guests being right in the middle of action. Each hour long show will end with hot apple cider and snacks, just as the next group is getting ready for the start of their show.
We’re particularly excited about this one. Normally because of the traveling nature of our theater we limit ourselves to small cast (2-5) plays. For this one we’ll have a cast of 12 spread throughout the Allen House.
This show will be aimed at and priced for family audiences. Ticketing and details aren’t all worked out but join the Newton Nomadic Theater mailing list and we’ll let you know as soon as we have them.
In the meantime, we’re still scouting for locations for future shows in Nonantum, Chestnut Hill, and Thompsonville
DEC 16 & 17 are the date for this Dickens of Christmas Carol
@Linda – Yes that is correct. I’ve garbled the dates as usual 😉 Thanks
Very fun idea!
When will they organize a bike a thon throughout the city highlighting all the bike paths? How about Shakespeare in the park, like Boyd park, or Burr park. Just a thought.
@Kevin McArdle – They all sound like great ideas, although I’m not sure who “they” is.
Our theater doesn’t organize bike activities (“Long day’s journey into bike”?). You might want to suggest that to BikeNewton though, they do organize bike rides.
As for Shakespeare in the park, unfortunately the Newton Nomadic Theater shuts down every year from June – September so we wouldn’t be taking that one on I’m afraid.
The Hyde Center in Newton Highlands organized a fabulous program of entertainment at the Hyde Bandstand that ran all summer long on Friday and Saturday nights. It did include the Commonwealth Shakespeare Company.
What an exciting holiday event! I have also been dying to see the inside of the Allen House.
Jerry, you are too modest. I think the Tour de Newton is an impressive event involving bicycles and Newton’s villages. We also are proud of the Newton Theatre Company that has several outdoor performances on the steps and stages of the Arts Cultural Center, aka the War Memorial.
