It appears that Allison Sharma’s write-in campaign to defeat otherwise unchallenged Christopher Markiewicz has come up short. It’s hard to tell at this point, but it looks like Allison will finish 150-250 votes shy of Chris’s 1,122. According to her facebook page, Allison will be requesting a manual review of ballots.
Ward 4 write-in campaign falls short

That’s a shame. I hope she runs again for the seat. And I will gladly donate to her when she does. Some of us don’t like our elections determined for us by backroom deals.
This is great news for residents of Ward 4. Chris clearly knows the issues better than Allison and is more than ready for the responsibility of being Ward Councilor.
So glad that Allison Sharma ran to give Ward 4 a choice. Imagine if she had her name on the ballot? I hope to see her involved in future Newton politics.
I was so proud of the spirited race Allison ran, working hard against long odds, all the way down to the finish line.
This is an incredible result – write in campaigns are very difficult. That Allison came so close in this instance shows the strong support she has in the ward. She should definitely request a manual review of ballots and – since the charter did not pass – run again in two years if she comes up short this time following the review of ballots by the Newton City Clerk. Well done Allison. Really an amazing result.
I was really pleased that Allison ran her uphill write-in campaign. I’m sure she is disappointed that she didn’t win tonight but she should be proud of turning a quiet arrangement into a contested election. Thank you Allison.
Wow! I’m so impressed she came so close. A write in campaign is a huge challenge. Imagine if she were on the ballot?
With this campaign, she proved herself to be committed to the issues, organized, and hard working. None of those things change, so I’m sure she’ll continue to be an asset to Ward 4, as a councilor or just a citizen.
I am proud of Allison for stepping up! The back door deal that was attempted was brought to the public’s eye. Voters in Newton are educated and want a say in their government. I hope Allison runs again. WTG Allison!
