There is a wonderful, truly inspired event that happens every year in Newton called Newton Inspires.
This year it’s on Monday evening Nov 13, 7 – 9:30 PM at Newton South. The event is FREE to all Newton residents ($15 for non-residents) but you need to pre-register this week.
They always an assemble a large team of really interesting Newton residents who do very interesting things and/or are experts on very interesting topics.
The night’s broken up into three 35 minute sessions. For each session, you choose which topic/speaker you’d like to hear.
If you’ve never been, sign up now (some sessions are already filled up). I have nothing to do with this event, other than as an attendee buy I guarantee that you’ll enjoy the night. It’s one of the wonderful things about living in this town … and yes it does inspire.
Tonight was one of my favorite nights of the year.
Globe movie reviewer Ty Burr talking about the state of movies and film was a nice kickoff. Artist Nancy Schon and WGBH’s Jared Bowen talking about Schon’s public art was great. Hands down highlight of the night though was astrophysicist Fabio Giovanni giving a totally compelling history of the universe and the big bang.
Likewise, Jerry, it is always one of my favorite evenings in Newton. I too heard Ty Burr, and Nancy and Jared. In between those two excellent presentations, I had the opportunity to learn from Nathan Phillips, talking about cooking the planet. Time to explore replacing my old cooktop with an induction cooktop. Great job, Newton Schools Foundation! Thanks for another thought provoking evening. PS: its also such fun running into old friends and fellow NNHS parents, and fun being at NSHS, from which I graduated so many years ago!!
