Honoring and remembering the victims

| Newton MA News and Politics BlogTonight, Fri Oct 6, Newton citizens will gather at 6:30 PM at Captain Ryan Memorial Park (beside police station) in West Newton, to honor and remember all those murdered in Las Vegas on Oct 1.

    This is another sad moment in US history.

    I would like to know more about the planned program. The initial email I saw didn’t seem like it was addressing the horrible tragedy as much as affirming those in attendance are “good Americans” with the focus on the National Anthem, the Pledge of Allegiance and the God Bless America.

    If the event is to mourn 59 lives taken too soon, recognize the heroic acts of those who helped people to safety or stayed with people injured or dying, and commit to addressing the unique issue of gun violence in the US including the very real link between gun violence and domestic abusers, I will be there. Otherwise, I will stay home and read more letters from grieving families listening to “Dear Hate” https://www.today.com/popculture/country-singer-maren-morris-responds-las-vegas-shooting-song-dear-t117123

    Thank you for posting this, Jerry. This memoriam has been organized by the Newton 9-11 Memorial Foundation and the Newton Police Department.
    [On another note, I don’t even want to know anyone who would give this gathering a thumbs-down?]
