Is the same forum that all seven (7) candidates arrived via automobile?
Hi Janet,
I would have loved to bike as it was a beautiful day, but I had to carry my signs and after trying to juggle them for a bit I docked my bike and opted for a car. But for most of the forums I have arrived by bike as they have all been local in Newton. In fact, for most of my transport in general around Newton I go by bike.
Eli Katzoff,
Mayoral Candidate
Janet, I don’t fault candidates for arriving by car given Newton’s unsafe and/or inconvenient alternatives. Part of the reason for this forum was to see who wants to change Newton’s transportation status quo and how.
I found this forum informative, but it did not include time for questions from the audience. I think it would be helpful if V14 adds a new posting on outstanding questions for the candidates. If the candidates are too busy to answer themselves, they could have members of their campaign answer.
Councilor Fuller,
I am trying to be as polite and direct as possible. This is my fifth time asking this question on V14.
I had been considering voting for you, but neither you, nor your campaign co-chairs Steve Grossman or Dana Hanson, or others from your campaign have replied to my request for more information about her 30 years of experience as a strategic planner. I know many politically aware people read this blog, so I would think by now someone would have replied. I think it would help inform the public if you or a member of your campaign post your resume describing your 30 years of experience as a strategic planner on her campaign website. If you already have a resume, it would take only a few minutes to post it. Or is there another way you would prefer to summarize your experience for voters?
Are there any student journalists from NSHS or NNHS who may be able to get more information on this? How about TAB, Newton Patch, Boston Globe reporters, or citizen journalists or bloggers? Maybe V14 could have a contest to crowdsource the information?
It is important the public be informed about Councilor Fuller’s 30 years of strategic planning experience, since she emphasizes it as a credential which makes her the best candidate for mayor. Thank you for your help.
Well said, Chris. Experience is front and center in all of Fuller’s campaign materials, so voters have every right to know what it is.
Also, has Ruthanne been asked about why she was donating Republican until about 2008, and then switched to Democratics in 2010? Seems to have aligned with when she became city councilor.
Chris – They obviously are not going to respond. The only thing that is not Fuzzy with Fullers Math is her and her family’s THOUSANDS of dollars in Donations to Republicans.
Following up on Joanne’s point… Fuller explained that Mitt Romney is a “family friend.” [Hey, you have to support your friends]. She also explained that she only gave money to George Bush “once.” [Look, everyone is entitled to one mistake, right?]. But the contribution that was particularly troubling to me, was $10,000 she gave to the Republican Party. In my opinion, no one gives that kind of money to a political party unless they [at least generally] support that party’s platform.
I would urge every registered voter in Newton to watch the “Up-zoning” video of last year’s forum about the effect that zoning for greater density has had on the Ballard section of Seattle. (Basically, Ballard is to Seattle what Newton is to Boston, except that Seattle annexed Ballard decades ago, and Boston did not succeed in annexing Boston. So Newton residents still have the opportunity to determine our own zoning, if we choose to take it.) It’s online here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jex02iV52pM and you can also watch on NewTV tonight at 8pm. I think you will find it quite relevant to Newton.
Then, go back and watch or re-watch the excellent housing and transit forum, which I thought was very informative.
