Newton candidate for mayor Geoffrey Woodward believes Newton residents have “lost confidence and faith in city government” and that all of his opponents hold “extremists elitist and special interest views.” Do you agree with him?
Have you lost faith in Newton? Geoffrey Woodward says we have

That’s 3 minutes I can’t get back. Thanks.
No, but then I don’t agree with much of anything he said.
He is all promises and declarations.
He will never raise taxes. He will return taxes to the citizens of Newton. He will eliminate the billion dollar long term liability. He will never have a budget override. He is the only candidate who represents ALL the citizens of Newton.
He has one vote for or against reducing the city council from 24 to 12 – as mayor he wouldn’t be able to change that.
“Retaining the character of Newton’s village centers” sounds familiar. Isn’t there an interest group that wants to do the same?
I disagree strongly with Woodward’s basic premise. Sure there are things about Newton that could be better but overall our city is very well run and responsive. It’s a great place to live and I believe the vast majority of our residents feel that way. This election is about improving what we have here.
It’s also without merit for Woodward to accuse all of his opponents hold “extremist elitist and special interest views.”
BTW, I understand Geoffrey Woodward is having some conversations around the city complaining that as a city employee I should not be expressing my personal views about candidates, moderating debates, making money from Village 14 or endorsing one of the candidates.
For the record: I am not a city employee. I am employed by the Newton-Needham Regional Chamber, a 501 (C) 6 business association representing 786 area businesses and nonprofits. None of Village 14’s bloggers (including me) are paid or receive any revenue from this site. (A company called Serpcom keeps any revenue from the ads on this site in exchange for free hosting and technical support.) Finally I’m not endorsing or supporting any mayoral candidate and don’t expect to (although its within my rights as a citizen to do so). In fact, I’m not sure who I will vote for on Sept. 12 …although I have narrowed it down to three.
I can’t wait for the field to get narrowed down to two candidates.
