I’m glad the 20 acre property will continue to host an educational mission… for now.
But here’s the most important part. That property is valued at more than $47M. The owner pays $0 in property taxes. This nonsense has got to come to an end. We desperately need a mayor who’s willing to challenge these wealthy institutions to pay their fair share of property taxes. It’s time to let them know in no uncertain terms… THE FREE RIDE IS OVER!!!
mike,
zero taxes? yet they charge those huge tuition fees? Am I missing something?
Obviously if it were a public school providing free education then taxes should be exempt. Is this a for-profit school which pays zero property taxes?
Are the only properties free from taxation religious institutions or are all private educational institutions not taxed either? Religious institutions are not taxed because of separation of church and state principles. But even these institutions can have pressure brought from a strong Mayor to pay a fair share in a Payment In Lieu Of Taxes (PILOT) program.
