The Charter Commission has not finished their deliberations. They met last night and will meet again on Wednesday night and possibly on Thursday night as well. If not DONE by then, they can meet Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday next week, too. After that, on Thursday, May 4, the proposal is chiseled in stone and sent to the State and the City. Completed. Unchangeable. Done. Finis. BUT…

last night they gathered to finish wording on three topics: 1) City employees on Boards or Commissions. They determined that city employees should not take a seat on Boards or Commissions that is specified as a seat for a resident of the City, as the employee might be influenced by his employer in a manner that would not represent the best interests of the citizenry. 2) They decided that Special Elections (for Mayor or Councilors) not be held in July or August and determined the number of days from the call for a Special Election for the election to be held. 3) They deliberated about Mayoral Recall and decided that the language presented to the Commission on that topic was too imprecise and needed to be clarified with care and they didn’t have enough time to do that, so they tabled the discussion. Unless one of the Councilors asks to “untable” the discussion, they will not tackle the topic anymore…and there will be no Mayoral Recall provision in the proposed charter.
