The proposed changed to the City Charter, to reduce the the size of the City Council, has had a bizarre unintended consequence.
As of today all 24 sitting City Councillors have announced that they are running for mayor. Further complicating matters, it appears that most of the Charter Commissioners will also be on the ballot
We told you it would create competitive elections!
Apparently 35 Area Councilors (all except for me) from the Councils in Newtonville, Newton Highlands, Upper Falls and Waban have also thrown their hats on the ring. I am considering running for the next Charter Review Commission!
