Andreae Downs signaled her intent a while ago to run for the at-large Ward 5 City Council seat.  This morning I received the email below so it appears to be official.  We’ll once again have a three way race here in Ward 5 with Andrea challenging incumbents Brian Yates and Deb Crossley.

I do like that Ward 5 seems to usually have contested elections.  It is a tough hill to climb for a challenger though.  Last time around Chris Pitts ran.  The election before that was Chris Steele.  Neither Chris was able to unseat an incumbent.

I’m excited to announce that I’m running for City Council! All Newton voters can vote in this race.

Being on the council will allow me to advance several goals that I have advocated for years:

  • Growing our tax base
  • Building community
  • Making streets safer and transportation better for all
  • Adding housing in the right spots–where it won’t increase traffic
  • Enhancing economic vitality and diversity

My approach is to listen, do my homework, and move forward with honesty and integrity. I enjoy challenges and don’t mind hard work.

I want to find the best, most durable solutions to Newton’s challenges, and I know that to do that, I need your ideas. Please share them with me at [email protected] or 617-329-1261. Please see my website (Andreae4Newton.com) to learn more!

Enthusiastically,

Andreae Downs
