Andreae Downs signaled her intent a while ago to run for the at-large Ward 5 City Council seat. This morning I received the email below so it appears to be official. We’ll once again have a three way race here in Ward 5 with Andrea challenging incumbents Brian Yates and Deb Crossley.
I do like that Ward 5 seems to usually have contested elections. It is a tough hill to climb for a challenger though. Last time around Chris Pitts ran. The election before that was Chris Steele. Neither Chris was able to unseat an incumbent.
I’m excited to announce that I’m running for City Council! All Newton voters can vote in this race. Being on the council will allow me to advance several goals that I have advocated for years:
My approach is to listen, do my homework, and move forward with honesty and integrity. I enjoy challenges and don’t mind hard work. Enthusiastically, |

wondering if we have found the unaudited (unaccountable) water which the MWRA has billed us for? I understand a Newton internal water audit was performed about this time last year. We still believe, and have the proof that the Elster Amco meters are not properly reading at the lowest flow rate..
Great news, she’ll make an exciting addition to the many new candidates running this year! I love all the enthusiasm and new faces we’re seeing.
– and for Mayor, who’ll be splitting the uprights?
@Harry Sanders – I’m pretty sure there’ll be (at least) one more candidate for mayor. I’ve been hearing recent rumblings about someone jumping in.
yes, and she’s geared toward downsizing in more ways than one.
“she”? … then there may be a four-way race
preliminary to the preliminary – musical chairs to the adaptable runners, new ideas a must.
Andreae…You go Girl! I am with you
Having worked with Andreae closely over the last ten years or so, I am absolutely thrilled she’s running. A star in the making!
I am absolutely thrilled that Andrea is running: She has got energy, intelligence and great ideas!
We need her on the City Council!
I suspect there will be at least one,
if not two more people jumping into this race.
I’m also thrilled Andreae is running for city counselor, at-large. Not just because we always need challengers – but mostly because it’s Andreae! I’ve been working with her on the BAC for several years. She is a great listener who has fresh and well-thought out ideas that she expresses with clarify and thoughtfulness. She really IS open to ideas to improving the quality of life here in Newton for us and our children. The issues that concern her are ones that we in Newton are thirsty to have represented with an intelligent voice. Andreae will represent ALL of Newton, not just a small portion or tiny enclave.
So this opportunity for residents of Newton is indeed good news!
