The next Nomad Story Slam will be on Friday March 17, 7:30 at Gregorian Rugs. This time we’ve got a special guest story teller.
John McDonagh has been a cab driver in NYC for the last 35 years. His one man show of crazy tales from the cab, The Cabtivist, has received great reviews in New York. We’ll soon be bringing The Cabtivist to Newton but in the meantime he’s going to give us a sample at the next Nomad Story Slam.
If you’ve not yet been to one of these events, this should be a good one to try. They are nights of story telling inspired by the Moth Radio Hour. Anybody can put their name in the hat to tell a five minute true story based on the theme.
The theme of this next one is “appetite“, appetite for risk, appetite for food, for power, for love, for danger – for whatever else you can think of. So start working on a story yourself or just come to hear a great selection of stories from others. They are always fun nights.
Here’s one of my favorite stories from the last Nomad Story Slam to get you in the mood

Here’s a wacky story from the last Nomad Story Slam back in November. The theme was “that was odd”.
Join us next Friday, March 17 for the next Nomad Story Slam at Gregorian Rugs. You’ll love it.
Tickets ($10) here.
Last night’s story from special guest John McDonagh was definitely the highlight of the night for me. Between John’s dead pan and hysterically told story and the video clips, I couldn’t stop laughing. The look on FoxNews anchor Neal Cavuto’s face as he listened to John, just before he was chased out of the studio by half the staff of Fox, was priceless.
We’ll bringing John back up from New York in April for a weekend’s worth of performances of his one man show The Cabtivisit probably sometime next month. For those of you who heard last night’s story from John, trust me, that was the tip of a very large iceberg. He has gotten himself into more ridiculous situations, and crossed paths in strange ways with all sorts of well known people than anybody I’ve ever met.
It was another great night of stories with roughly 15 other great 5 minute stories covering the profound to the ridiculous and everything in between. Thanks to all our local story tellers for entertaining us all with a five minute piece of your life … and appetite.
