Come on down to Gregorian Rugs this Saturday, 7:30 PM for the 10th Nomad Story Slam.
These are great nights of storytelling inspired by the Moth Radio Hour. Come to listen to wonderful stories, or if you like, come and tell us a story. The theme of the night is “that was odd”. Stories should be 5 minutes, connected to the theme, and no notes or reading.
If you haven’t been to one yet you should. They are great nights. Order tickets ($10) in advance for preferred seating or just pay at the door.
To get you in the mood, here’s a story from another election year many years ago.
For more story slam, Temple Beth Avodah, 45 Puddingstone Lane, Newton, is having their first story slam tonight (Sunday, Nov. 20) at 6:30 PM. Tickets available at the door or at http://www.bethavodah.org/arts-troupe . The theme is “L’chaim”.
Last night’s 10th Nomad Story Slam was a wonderful night. We had a packed house (110) and 15 great stories ranging from totally goofy to intensely moving … and everything in between.
Thanks to everyone who came but most especially to the storytellers. On their own merits these Story Slam’s are great nights of entertainment. In addition though the proceeds help keep our theater running and to enable us to attract the best actors in the region for our theatrical productions.
BTW – We always look for themes for the Nomad Story Slams that strike a chord with story tellers and audiences. I’m beginning to think we’ll have to go with “leaf blowers” as the theme for our next one 😉
@Jerry: There’s an event on the North Shore hosted by Congressman Seth Moulton each Veterans Day where vets tells their stories. It could be modified for a Story Slam by inviting both vets to tell their stories and inviting others to tell stories about vets who touched their lives. Just the stories we heard here on our Veterans Day thread makes me think this could be a really compelling event.
Great idea Greg!
I actually heard about that event last year and spoke to Mayor Warren about it. He was very enthusiastic and told me to speak the city’s director of veteran’s affairs. Unfortunately that was in April, Veterans Day is November, and I have a short attention span. I’m afraid I dropped the ball.
I’ll definitely have to get it organized for next year or perhaps we can do one unconnected to Veteran Day. Thanks for jogging my memory. I’d love to do an event like this.
