I’d like every candidate to be asked for their position on the Massachusetts ballot initiative to legalize marijuana. Personally, I will no longer vote for a candidate for any office [local, state, or federal] unless they explicitly state their support for an end to cannabis prohibition. Prohibition not only oppresses individual freedom, but it also suppresses our economy, eliminating hundreds of businesses, thousands of jobs, and hundreds of million$ in tax revenue for Massachusetts alone. It didn’t work for alcohol. It doesn’t work for cannabis. It’s time to put an end to this insanity.
Mike –
I’m supporting the ballot question this year, and the other two candidates in my race have both publicly opposed during this campaign any legalization of marijuana. (As I recall, both used the term “gateway.”) Hope that helps, in case it doesn’t come up in the debate tonight.
@Bill Humphrey: Good for you!
@Bill– I’m supporting you. I had the opportunity to look over your website. Frankly, I’d be hard pressed to recall the last time I came across such an outstanding candidate for any public office. I’m not just referring to your position on cannabis. Your overall perspective and well articulated positions indicate that you are one of the very rare candidates who really does “get it.” You absolutely have my vote and my support.
Thanks! Glad to have your support.
Stay tuned for when it airs & streams online. It was a pretty good debate, although perhaps lacking in some of the fireworks seen in 2012 and 2014 debates. (Perhaps that’s better for our democracy anyway.)
In the meantime, you can stay updated on my doors-knocked count (7,600 district-wide, 2,400 in Newton, either from my volunteers or often me in person) & my endorsements (including NARAL Pro-Choice Mass & Progressive Democrats of Massachusetts, as well as many familiar Newton electeds) at http://www.billhumphrey.net/endorsements
I also encourage everyone to research all the candidates thoroughly. I’ve certainly had a public presence for a number of years if you search me online, but the other two candidates do as well. Sometimes candidate websites don’t capture everyone fully, although I hope mine does as much as possible!
And please do remind folks in Newton that there’s a primary on *Thursday* September 8th!
It continues to be critical that a change be made in the 3rd District Governor’s Council seat.
I enjoyed meeting Bill and having the chance to sit and listen to his thoughts and approach. He has my enthusiastic endorsement in the race, and my vote on Thursday Sept 8th.
Charlie Shapiro
Former Candidate for Governor’s Council
Any word on when this will be available to watch before the election? Thanks, cheers.
Thanks, Charlie. It was incredibly valuable to hear your experiences running for this office. I’ve really enjoyed meeting with so many past candidates and getting their perspectives.
Dan, we got an email yesterday saying it would be online Thursday. Not sure when aired on the channels.
