Leave them longer! This has been a wonderful community project.
It’s been great – the longer, the better!
Many of them will (or already have been) removed this week and donated to local places. A few of them, at least Newton Centre and Upper Falls, are going to stay in place until the pianos become unusable – probably just a month or two.
A round of applause to the volunteers who’ve tended the pianos, covering them when rain was due and uncovering them when the drops stopped falling. And a second round of applause to the artistically talented who painted the pianos and the musically talented who sat down and played them. My thanks to you all. I’m glad to hear that the Newton Centre piano has a bit of life in it yet. Between the tunes drifting on the spring breeze and the unexpected pop-up carnival a few weeks ago, this has been quite the enchanted village of late.
It looks like the Newton Highlands piano will stay though the summer. Perhaps we will have someone play in the Highlands Village day Beer Garden in between the many other musical performances.
This year’s Festival of the Arts has been excellent all around! Thank you to Linda Plaut and her team for putting this together. But, honestly….the pianos were the biggest hit. They were beautiful, and inspired lovely music. But most of all, they inspired community and neighborliness! Each and every time I stopped to enjoy one, I got to talking to people that I had never met before and I enjoyed getting to know them. How wonderful!
