The Newton Nomadic Theater’s has got some great news about its upcoming production of Molly Sweeney. Fiddler extraordinaire Emerald Rae will be bringing her beautiful, haunting music to 8 of the 11 performances of Molly Sweeney. She’ll be performing live before and after those shows.
Other news is that the theater’s Marie Jackson sat in on a rehearsal this week of Molly Sweeney, as a pair of outside eyes. She came back totally wow’ed and reports “All three of the actors are fantastic. The presentation is incredibly straighforward and works really really well. We definitely have a winner here”
Come join us at the Waban Library for one of the opening weekend’s performances (Fri & Sat) of Brian Friel’s Molly Sweeney. Says Marie, “you will definitely love it”. Tickets and info at NewtonNomadicTheater.org
In the meantime, take a listen to Emerald Rae
Emerald Rae’s involvement virtually ensures that “Molly Sweeney” will be a spectacular performance. Her music is frequently featured on WUMB’s Celtic Twilight program and other Celtic venues in the Boston area. I saw her perform last year at a concert by the Barra MacNeils, a very prominent Cape Breton traditional folk group. She brought the house down even though her style is generally softer, more haunting and less intrusive than other Celtic fiddle players. Her style is more Scottish than Irish, but in today’s interchangeable Celtic music scene, that’s not really that important or distinguishable.
Just ordered my tickets! Friel’s play “Faith Healer,” the Newton Nomadic Theater’s first production, was haunting and electrifying. Can’t wait to see this same playwright’s “Molly Sweeney” in Nomadic Theater hands! My advice: since Newton Nomadic Theater productions are highly creative and professional and tickets are incredibly affordable, snap them up as fast as you can!
I will second Bob’s endorsement of Emerald. She is thoroughly charming and engaging as well as a dynamic fiddle player.
