This past June, the 3rd annual Tour de Newton was rained out. It’s been rescheduled for Sunday Sept 13, starting at 9:30 AM.
We need your help as a Village Greeter.
The Tour de Newton is a very relaxed 20 mile bike ride through all 13 villages of Newton. It starts simultaneously in all 13 villages with a total of 750 riders. They all ride the same 20+ mile circuit in groups of 20 -30. As each group arrives at a village, they are met by the Village Greeters who hand out snacks and treats and a village button and tell them a bit about the village. For the Greeters it’s a fun gig. Every 10 minutes or so a new group arrive so it’s a fun, social and festive morning.
If you’d be interested in helping out as a Village Greeter, we’d love to have your help – contact [email protected].
If you’d like to ride the Tour de Newton, you’re in luck. Back in June the ride was full. When it was rescheduled, some riders dropped out, so registration had been re-opened. Sign up here.
p.s. If you’re running for office this fall, it’s a great way to introduce yourself to 750 of your constituents in a very relaxed setting and you’d be helping support this great new annual Newton tradition.
The Tour de Newton is this coming Sunday, Sept 13. If you’Re a confident experienced bicycle rider, consider volunteering as a “sweep” to ride in the back of one of the dozens of groups of riders to help keep your group together. If you’d rather not ride, think about volunteering as one of your villages’s greeters.
It’s,a,fun job. Welcome a new batch of riders every 19 to 1t minutes. Hand out treats, snacks and Tour de Newton badges and tell them a bit about your village.
If you’d like to help put on this great annual event, send me an email – [email protected]
Oops. That’s “10 – 15 minutes”
I’m back in, after not being able to make the original June date- looking forward to it!
I am looking forward to welcoming riders to West Newton as a village greeter. Also, hoping for a break in the heat wave by Sunday. So far, the extended forecast looks good.
Looks like a near perfectly-timed rain-free period tomorrow for the ride!
