The Tzu Chi Foundation moved into the old Methodist Church in Upper Falls about 5 or 6 years ago. Since then they’ve become great neighbors. They’ve recruited volunteers for the twice a year Hemlock Gorge cleanups and they’ve been sponsors of the Feast of the Falls right from the first year. This weekend they’re inviting the whole neighborhood to join them this Saturday from 12 – 2:30PM for a free ice cream social in their gardens. They’ll have game booths too. Everyone’s welcome – 15 Summer St, Upper Falls.
What’s better than ice cream and games with your neighbors on a Saturday afternoon?
You’re also welcome to join them for any of the day’s Tzu Chi activities.
9.15am – 10.15am – Monthly Lotus Sutra Chanting Meditation
10.15am – 12pm – Lunar Month of July Community Blessing Ceremony
Come experience chanting/walking meditation and learn more about Buddhist faith where living with mindfulness and compassion can lead to a world of peace and more sustainability. Join us in a community prayer ceremony to bring good thoughts to those are in suffering or warfare around the world.
12pm – 2.30pm – Free Community Ice Cream Social and Game Booths in our community garden
Meet your neighbors, our friendly volunteers and test your skills and knowledge in our game booths.

I met and enjoyed talking with several people from the Tzu Chi Foundation at the Feast of the Falls gala. I wound up emailing them online copies of “Makers of the Mold” from the Friends of Hemlock Gorge website. They had no idea about the rich history of Upper Falls or the strong part the former church played in local and not so local history. Great people and a wonderful source of support for the Upper Falls community. They have certainly become enthusiastic partners of the Village. @Jerry. Can friends from the Highlands crash this event?
