Gail Spector’s new book, the Legendary Locals of Newton, has been getting all sorts of local coverage this week. The book features 125+ profiles of famous Newtonians from every walk of life.
This week the Newton Tab ran a front page story about the book.
NewTV ran a feature story on its weekly NewTV New show.
Head down to Newtonville Books on Wed at 7 PM for the book launch party and get a signed copy of this legendary book from it’s author.
I picked up a copy over the weekend and have been perusing it ever since. It’s full of great little stories and more than a few surprises.
My favorite surprise was not that Bozo the Clown was born in Newton (hold the snark, that’s just too easy 😉 ) but that Bozo was the alter-ego of Frank Avruch, the sophisticated and knowledgeable film guy I grew up with on the TV.
I also loved that Seana Gaherin, my friend and frequent co-conspirator, was recognized for the true legend that she is – she wreaks of legendariness (or is it legendariosity?)
I’m disappointed, but not surprised that Gail did not include Sam Robbins, the architect of Proposition 2.5. Robbins also rescued Steve Ross from the Nazi concentration camps.
