So if each Barry chipped in $4,593 dollars and then a few more bucks to move the apostrophe, they could rename it Barrys’ Village Deli!

If it were closing, there’d be lots of comments. That they’re selling it with offers of training so that it will pass along a tradition is very good news, but there’s less to say about it (unless, of course, it becomes Barrys’ in which case there will be endless streams of grammaristas insisting that there’s an error in the sign when the error’s in their reading.)

As long as someone in Waban Square continues to offer what I grew up calling “kippered salmon” (what many New Englanders call “smoked baked salmon”) on its menu, I will be a resident content with a multiple Barry ownership, kind of a delicate “essen” rite of passage! And it could also be called the Barry More Village Deli 😉
PS – for those needing the translation, “essen” = “eat” in Yiddish

I looked at this and wondered…..
But then again, my grandfather, a kosher butcher, made sure that his children didn’t follow him into the business. Reversing that would have a touch of irony.

Why would anyone buy this rundown biz?
Building looks like it hasn’t been repaired in 45 years.
Equipment looks like it was bought 45 years ago as well.
Five years ago it was doing 1.8M, now only 1.3?
Buyer beware.
This is a Newton landmark with a 45 year tradition (and free parking!). I’m surprised no one has commented on this.
Greg, the universe of people for this opportunity is rather limited. There are only 86 adults in Newton named Barry.
