Next Friday, April 10, the third Nomad Story Slam will be held at Gregorian Rugs in Lower Falls. This wildly popular community storytelling event is loosely modeled on the very popular MOTH Radio Hour.
The theme of the night will be “imagine my surprise“.
If you want to tell a story yourself (5 mins, true, and connected to the “imagine my surprise”) theme then arrive a little early (7:00 – 7:15).
Otherwise just come to listen to stories in the fabulous Gregorian Rugs, a beautiful Oriental rug showroom in the historic mill building in Lower Falls. If you haven’t been to one of these yet, you’ll love it – friends, neighbors, regular folks get up and share fantastic stories. Some are hysterically funny, some are very moving, some are off the wall, you never know what’s going to be next.
The event is presented by the Newton Nomadic Theater. Tickets are $10 and are available at http://NewtonNomadicTheater.org or at the door (so long as it doesn’t sell out ahead of time).
* Also, the complete video from January’s Nomad Story Slam will be featured on NewTV’s Community Channel this coming Wednesday, April 8 at 8 PM
I’ve got two stories ready to go. Which one I end up telling will probably be dictated by whether or not my 12 year old daughter is in attendance that night.
Another fabulous night of stories from our friends and neighbors last night. Thanks to all the folks who turned up, walked on stage and told compelling, funny, alarming, touching stories about everything from an 11 year old’s sex talk, near death experience with a camel, a BC football game, drug dealing and mom, how I met my spouse ….
Great crowd, great stories, great night.
Don’t miss the next Nomad Story Slam on May 22 which will be part of the month long Newton Festival of the Arts. The theme will be “a long way from home”, so start working on those stories.
