Yonah Kalikow will be representing Massachusetts in the Healthy Lunchtime Challenge! Her recipe, quinoa lentil burgers with kale slaw,  is one of the top 54 selected out of more than 1500 entries. Her last name is currently wrong on the link, but will be corrected soon. She’s headed to the White House for a Kid’s State Dinner July 18 hosted by First Lady Michelle Obama.

Yes, a rising middle schooler from Newton is about to meet Michelle Obama. So much better than hanging out with Rachael Ray.

The Healthy Lunchtime Challenge is aimed at getting kids, aged 8 to 12, to enter their best healthy recipes. A downloadable cookbook for the 2014 entries will be available in July.  According to the official rules, judges selected up to three winners from each state based on the recipe’s nutritional value, perceived taste (based on the written recipe), originality, affordability and the story behind it. Those recipes were then judged and tasted and judged again against others from the same state.

Congratulations Yonah!
