Although Wegman’s main grocery store won’t open at Chestnut Hill Square until April 27, their liquor store opened last weekend. The selection is jaw-dropping, certainly providing a hint as to why Wagman’s was just named the best supermarket in the country by Consumer Reports
It’s like Disneyland for beer and wine fans

It would be nice if those of us living south of Route 9 had a way to get to our “neighborhood” Wegmans’ without getting hit by a car. Will Dudley Rd. and Hammond Pond Parkway forever be without sidewalks?
I’m sure that responsibility for HPP can be palmed off on DCR, hence nothing will ever get done. But will Dudley Rd. forever be without sidewalks just to protect the property values? One of these days when a car comes tearing around the corner at full speed, I’m not going to be able to jump aside into the thorny bushes in time.
For several years, my favorite place to shop has been Roche Brothers in West Roxbury before 8:30 AM on a Saturday morning. I suspect it will continue to be even when Wegman’s finally opens in Chestnut Hill. It’s the most relaxing place and time of the week to food shop. Fresh and well stocked shelves, very friendly staff people and customers, almost no crowds and a quiet and relaxed environment. I find everything I need there.
I agree Bob, love the WesRox Roachy! Waban Market is also underrated.
But I am looking forward to checking out the Wegmans. My friends in the biz say that they really do a great job. I’ve been meaning to go to the one in Westborough, but whenever I’m out there it’s to visit the greatest liquor store in Massachusets- Julio’s Liquors. And I’m always in a rush to get home and sample my new purchases!
My mother lived right up the street from that Roche Bros. Every time my brother-in-law arrived for a visit from Chicago he would marvel yet again at the nerve of calling a food store Roche Bros. That was always right before he went off about the Thai Ho restaurant around the corner and Phuket down the street.
@Terry. We shopped at the Westborough (Northborough) Wegman’s on at least three occasions and were not terribly impressed. I have a feeling the Chestnut Hill location will be a lot more impressive.
@Jerry. People from the midwest often get overwhelmed by things and names we have here. Humor him.
