My favorite Newton tradition is coming around again on Sunday April 27 – NewtonSERVES.
NewtonSERVES is an annual day of volunteer service where 1000+ volunteers fan out across the city to help out with dozens and dozens of neighborhood projects. All the projects, by their nature, are very local – planting, building, painting, etc but the effort is city-wide, with multiple activities happening in each village in the city.
If you have a project in your neighborhood that could use some volunteers, then consider becoming a NewtonSERVES leader for the project. It’s very straightforward. Just go to the NewtonSERVES web site and register your project.
Don’t wait though because they’ll begin signing up volunteers on March 25 and they hope to have all the projects for this year registered as soon as possible.
The Upper Falls Neighborhood Area Council voted this week to support work on the Upper Falls Greenway as a Newton Serves Project.
Does the project have to take place on Sunday April 27.? B The Friends of Hemlock Gorge is sponsoring a cleanup of Hemlock Gorge on Saturday April 26 from 9 AM to noon as part of the Charles River Cleanup led by the Charles River Watershed Association. Volunteers should meet at the bulletin board off Central Street in Needham opposite the Mill Falls complex.
