The Newton police declared an official Snow Emergency beginning at 8 PM tonight. That means no cars are allowed to be parked on city streets starting at 8 PM. Violators may be ticketed and/or towed
Snow Emergency tonight: How are the streets & sidewalks in your village?

I wish they had said something about trash pickup. The latest forecasts suggest snow will be falling through the morning hours and I can’t imagine they would want the trash trucks competing with the City’s snow removal plows.
Many homes and the city chose not to shovel the sidewalks in my neighborhood after the last storm. I assume they were hoping the snow would melt. It is still there, and now it forms an ice surface under the new snow falling. It should make walking dangerous for the remainder of this week.
I just came in from at 11 p.m. shoveling….the snow is delightfully fluffy and light. Dare I say, it was actually enjoyable shoveling tonight.
Better you than me!*
* don’t worry, my sidewalks will be cleared by the guys I pay to do it 🙂
Just did all my shoveling in half an hour. This is as easy as it gets.
We lucked out, only an inch of snow.
Even the dead end street off a dead end street where I live was clean down to the pavement this a.m. Totally easy commute.
How is it that tear down developers in my neighborhood are somehow exempt from the snow removal Regulations ? I have to shovel but what’s the point if sidewalks contiguous to mine remain uncleared ? Can I get a waiver from having to shovel? 2 new houses complete but unsold now for many months ( by a very happy looking developer), have brand new sidewalks that have yet to be cleared once this entire winter. This has become a million dollar street here in Waban but you wouldn’t know it. ???
@NYC Member – I have the same question about condo associations in our neighborhood. The enforcement of the snow shoveling ordinance is entirely complaint driven. There’s no distinction between home owners, developers, and condo associations. I suspect that even if neighbors do make 311 complaints against developers and condo Asians, they just treat the modest fines as a cheaper alternative than complying with the rules – I.e. just a cost if business.
@Jerry – autocorrect is not your friend today.
@Tricia – You’re right 😉 Asian = assns (associations)
The condo asians are fine, it’s the yenta landlords
