Tonight, Oct 30, from 7 – 9:30, Ward 5’s three local Area Councils (Highlands, Upper Falls, Waban) are joining together to present a Ward 5 Candidates Night at the Emerson Community Center on Pettee St in Upper Falls. Come meet and listen to the the candidates for contested seats in the upcoming election. The Ward 5 Aldermen-At-Large candidates (Deb Crossley, Chris Steele and Brian Yates), the Ward 2 School Committee candidates (Margaret Albright and Andrea Steenstrup), and mayoral candidate Tes Hess-Mahan will all be there.
The organizers of this event do appreciate that even though local politics may be very important, for many the World Series comes first, they’ve promised to have a large screen TV by the stage, so you can simultaneously get your fill of both sports & politics. Everyone’s also invited to head down the hill after the event for a post-politics pint at Dunn Gaherins … and the end of the World Series game.
If you don’t like walking home in the dark, then be sure to NOT park in the residents’ spots at the Emerson – they tow. Not to worry though, there’s plenty of on-street parking on Pettee St.
Why isn’t the Mayor going to be there??
It might have something to do with President Obama’s being in town! However, Alderman Ted (not Tes) Hess-Mahan will be there to explain his perspective regarding the way he would like to see our City run! It is sure to be a very informative evening.
Sallee – you’ve got to be kidding. Hess-Mahan has been running for mayor for 6 months and hasn’t said a thing about how to run the city. Why would he start 6 days before the election? His campaign strategy has been straight out of the Mitt Romney playbook – go negative 24/7 and maybe no one will notice that you don’t have a clue about how to run a city.
@ Robert: Actually, it was a very informative evening. Marjorie Arons-Barron was our moderator. Her exquisite expertise and finesse in developing questions and drawing on answers to follow up with more questions made for a very lively evening. I was merely advertising the event (as one organizer of the evening from Waban) and not endorsing or promoting any candidate. Nonetheless, Ted did give his opinion on how he would like things done. Whether or not you agree with his approaches, he did put forth his ideas and, if you didn’t attend, you missed a chance to call him out on issues with which you disagree. You also missed joining those of us (all were invited) who gathered at Dunn Gaherin to watch the last 4 1/2 innings of the second most historic event of the night. I’m certain I don’t have to tell you that the most significant event of the night was the fact that the three area councils, covering the 3 villages of Ward 5, produced a non-partisan candidate forum for voters to meet the “names” on next Tuesday’s ballots.
So was the Mayor really NOT there? Tell me he was in Newtonville at the Austin St Meeting – or was he really in Weston with the President?
@Joanne: Dunno…he responded that he regretted that he could not attend because of several prior commitments.
