The Newton Patch has a color coded map today showing the percentage of houses in each area of the city with prices over $1,000,000
After the tax override vote last spring, Adam Peller put together a color coded map showing the override vote by ward.
I guess not surprisingly, there’s a big correlation between the two maps. The only obvious area that doesn’t correlate too well is the southern most portion of the city – it was strongly anti-override but moderate in million dollar houses.
Okay, I don’t remember if I shared these, but here are maps of the 2012 presidential and senatorial elections as well as the last override vote in 2008* show that corner of the city is consistently among the most conservative. Senator Warren won all precincts, as did President Obama, but ward 8, precinct 2 had the smallest margin, with Senator Warren eking out 51%.
The override votes show distortions based on the issues, notably around school districts directly affected by the outcome (Newton Highlands, Waban, Newton Centre)
* district lines are incorrect and popups on the override map incorrectly show senate results. Hopefully I got the rest right.
No correlation in Ward 8! (Ward 2 either…)
Last I heard, wards 1 and 8 are actively engaging in seceding from the City of Newton!!
