Newton’s race for Ward 2 alderman is down one candidate. Jack Leader has decided not to run. He is supporting Eve Tapper as the person he believes is the best candidate, according to the following email he sent to his colleagues on the Economic Development Commission:
After much discussion and thought, I have halted my aldermanic run. I will be supporting Eve Tapper, and I ask that you do the same. She is knowledgeable, experienced in the ways of Newton, and agrees with the EDC on all of our issues.

I guess Jack Leader decided to fold in this heck of a high-stakes poker game. Has anyone heard from Lia Fahey’s campaign?

Lila Fahey opened a Twitter account to announce her campaign in May but hasn’t tweeted since.
The latest news section on her campaign site also hasn’t been updated since then.
Same story with Facebook
I was surprised that those three links were all I saw from her campaign as well.
I’m wondering if candidates are waiting to the last minute to turn in their signatures. At least three school committee races (two incumbents and one newcomer who was endorsed by the termed-out member) as well as four aldermanic races (all incumbents) don’t even have a candidate who have turned in their signatures.

Jack Leader issued a press release on Monday..
Ward 2 lost another candidate. The TAB’s print edition reported that Lia Fahey bowed out of the race instead of turning in her signatures.
