NNHS Envirothon team 2013I was really happy and impressed to learn this week (because I follow @nnchamber on Twitter — thanks  Greg) that the NNHS Envirothon team finished first in the state competition!  You can read the Newtonite article here. They will be going to Montana (I’m envious!) in August for the North American Envirothon. I’ve met two of them — Malini and Kaija, and they are great kids!

Envirothon teams are tested in four areas: forestry, wildlife, soils and water, and each year has aCurrent Environmental Issue which rotates among the four subjects. This was a forestry year, and for their presentation, the team immersed itself in the state of Newton’s urban forest.

Envirothon planting volunteersIn addition, even though it was not required for their competition, several of them as well as their coach Ann Dannenberg were enthusiastic volunteer planters for the recent Newton Tree Conservancy tree plantings, helping out with the Newton Highlands group, and were a big help.

Congratulations, and hope you have a great time and continued success in Montana!
