The Boston Globe reported yesterday that Charles River Canoe & Kayak just lost the contract to run the canoe rental operation at the DCR boathouse on the Charles River at Commonwealth Ave. It sounds like they were blindsided by a competing bid that they weren’t expecting. Charles River Canoe and Kayak has been running the business for the last 40 years. This year, when the contract came up for renewal they were outbid ($30K vs $5k) by Boston Outdoor Recreation. The new operator promises to continue all the existing programs and services.
There was no mention in the Globe article, but presumably they will continue to run the canoe rental at Newton’s Nahaton Park.
whew! I have no dog in this go-round. Last time I was there was 20 years ago.
But the same level of services of 1/6th the price? Just would be curious how decision was reached and what factors went into it.
That is an Emmy award quality comment Mark. Congratulations!
Yes, it will be interesting to see how things pans out with the new contractor.
Thanks Jerry – appreciate that!!!
