The suspect on the run, Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, received a scholarship for higher education from the city of Cambridge in 2011, according to Wicked Local Cambridge.
I’m wondering what folks are doing today?
I spent the morning glued to the TV but now that I’ve heard the same unsubstantiated facts repeated about 200 times, I’ve finally decided to turn away. Also starting to think this lock down may last a while, maybe days.
I also realize that my family and neighbors have likely never been safer. Certainly there’s never been more law enforcement officials in this area protecting us at the same time. I realize, of course, that they’re not safe. I’m grateful for their service and for the service of the MIT officer who already gave his life.
I just turned off the TV – couldn’t stand it any more, especially since I never usually listen to TV news. Wishing I lived in an apartment building or could get my son from college to have some company – it’s getting lonely here all by myself. Don’t know how people will manage if the lockdown lasts for days – don’t think that’s sustainable.
Days? I have never not let my kids play outside on a beautiful day. They are now watching a movie…..we have done baking and board games. What next? What happens if they can’t find him….have us shelter for a week? I am all for public safety, but I won’t live in fear……if they don’t capture the guy today when people are home….shelter all of eastern MA? I can do it for a day….not four.
I typically work from home on Fridays so other than listening to the radio and some concerned emails from colleagues this is mostly a typical day. I do plan to meet friends for dinner tonight, although west of Newton.
It has been eerily quiet on the street in front of my house. I think I have only seen one car and an oil truck so far today. (Make that two cars)
The authorities have done an amazing job. It’s tragic that the MIT officer was killed and the transit officer shot. I appreciate that all these police are risking their lives to capture this terrorist. I understand why they locked down the area near where he was last seen. But to allow a 19 year old punk to shut down an entire region is an overreaction of unprecedented magnitude, and plays right into the objective of terrorism.
So, a couple of questions that I have are:
1) Several times today, the “SUV driver that was carjacked” quoted to say that the two kids told him they were the bombers and that they had killed a police officer … but then they just let him go. Does that make sense to everyone? That just seems rather incredible to me. They seemed to have no problem killing everyone else, why wouldn’t they have just shot the guy to get his car? If they truly had disregard for the lives of others, why would they have even bothered taking the time to threaten him?
2) I’m still not getting how they know that the MIT cop was shot by the brothers … originally it was because the cop was called regarding the robbery at the 7/11 and was shot … but now it’s been revealed that the brothers were NOT the ones doing the robbery, so now what makes them think that shooting was related?
3) How did the older brother sustain shrapnel injuries?
All I’m saying is that while we seem to be getting no more new information in this investigation on this and they’re looking for some filler stories … why not investigate these rather glaring questions that seem quite anomalous to everything … at least to me.
